DVD review: Killpoint (1984)

Joe Marks (Cameron Mitchell) has robbed the National Guard armory in an attempt to boost his black-market gun sales. He has stolen enough guns, grenades, and rocket launchers to outfit a small army. Killpoint is written, directed, edited and shot by Frank Harris. The acting is bad, even if Richard Roundtree gets top billing he only has a small part as Agent Bill Bryant, guess he needed some money to pay the rent. Cameron Mitchell gives a dreadful perfomance and Leo Fong as Lt. James Long is one of the most boring heroes ever, not a sign of emotion on his face or voice. It was kinda fun to spot martial artist Bill Wallace in a very brief cameo (if you blink you´ll miss him), why the hell didn´t they give him some screentime? He would have been a great bad guy. The camerawork and editing is pretty good but most of the action is too badly done to entertain and the martial arts fight scenes feel uninspired and are badly shot. On a positive note there are at least one unexpected twist. One reason that Killpoint looks to have a bigger budget than the average B-movie is that it seems to have had full cooperation with the Riverside Police Department (which explains all the uniformed cops, cars, Metro-team and so on). There is no gore, there are a few squibs along the way. Actually there is a severe shortage of the big juicy squibs as there quite a few shootouts and even a few massacres as guncrazed petty-thiefs rob stores with assault weapons and killing everyone. There is some brief T & A as some characters meet in a strip club.
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Mill Creek Entertainment.
Rating: 1 out of 7. Can´t recommend this to anyone, it´´s a boring and uninspired actionflick nevertheless I will be reviewing two more Frank Harris flicks in the near future, I just hope that they are better than Killpoint.
