DVD review: Dard Divorce (Video 2007)

Nathalie (Martina Ittenbach), is getting a divorce from her husband Tim (Barrett Jones). The fight for custody of their two children, Elizabeth and Jenny, are in full swing so it could be Tim's last weekend with the kids. Nathalie has an unusually bad feeling about handing over children to their increasingly unbalanced father, but because of the legal situation, she can not do anything. As her dog suddenly disappears her concerns seems to be justified, and the situation worsens when a severely injured Tim appears. Before he dies in the arms of Nathalie time he did say that "they" have children "...
The plot feels original and in the beginning it looks like an ordinary movie and after a slow start, actually it seems to take forever, things start happening and there is a lot extreme gore and violence. The film is a crossbreed of crime and horror, it takes a non-linear route with several flashbacks and there is a couple of neat twists. It´s professionally shot and edited, the soundtrack is pretty good but at the end of the movie the music is so loud I literally couldn't hear what the actors were saying and this is dialogue that is important for the plot and conclusion of the film. Most of the acting is semi-decent but Martina Ittenbach and the two children are really bad, the kids comes across as mechanical and unnatural while Martina seems devoid of any form of emotion. Gorehounds will love Dard Divorce, here is a lot of gruesome gore and the gore make-up fx are  pretty damn impressive. Olaf Ittenbach once again proves beyond doubt that he knows what he's doing when it comes to creating impressive gore set-pieces. There is nothing for fans of T & A to be found, although there is full frontal male nudity for those who appreciate it.
This review is based upon the region 2 DVD release from Njuta Films, it´s uncut and has english audio.
Rating: 6 out of 7. Dard Divorce is original, unpredictable, brutal and extremely gory. The film really keeps you guessing 'til the end. If you are a fan of Ittenbach you should check this one out asap!
